8 Typical Education Issues in Mainland China

China is used as an example of how to do education right (minus the oppressive censorship, of course). This is in part, thanks to the great sage Confucius and his legendary status. Coupled with the western stereotype of Chinese as math geeks or overachieving suckups. However even in this country there are education issues and thankfully the Chinese ministry of Eucation released a list recounting the 8 typical education issues that teacher’s and students face regularly.

A Chinese article recounting the 8 typical education issues

In China the CCP likes to use examples to highlight “issues” that occurring in whatever subject they are discussing. It is one of the reasons why they love a forced confession. It allows them to provide and example to the audience thus making it more visceral.

Typical Issue #1 The Corporal Punishment of Young Children

The example in this case happened in November of 2019 when Teacher Chen at Weijia kindergarten in Xuyi, Jiangsu province (the province just north of Shanghai) during lunch break ordered 4 children, who were “disturbing others” via their playing, to slap themselves in the mouth.
I wish I could say this was uncommon, but many teachers in China have started to use the self-hitting method in an effort to get around teacher’s no longer being able to beat their students.

Typical Issue #2 The Corporal Punishment of Children

Example Teacher Xu and Pu from a different kindergarten got students to hit themselves as well. I know, I know. Same age, same happening, same everything. Yet classified as a separate topic?
What can I say the party like to release things like a buzzfeed article. They have to hit that round perfect number. (8 is a very lucky number in Chinese culture.)

Typical Issue #3 Plagiarism

Plagiarism in Chinese academic circles, is like HPV in American universites, widespread. Example Teacher Hu of Ruyi Primary School in Shenzhen, Guangdong, repeatedly plagiarizing others’ works to publish books, publish WeChat messages, and editing teaching materials, etc.
Yes, that is right. In China Academia plagiarism is not reserved for universities, but goes all the way down to primary school teachers. This has to do with the pressure placed on teachers from the party.

Typical Issue #4 General Student Abuse

In this case we have the director of the Political Education Office (so not a real teacher, but a CCP member who is there to make sure that everything is following the party’s rules on education)at Shuiquan Primary School in Biangang, Fugou, Henan, forced students to eat garbage because they had yet to clean up.

Typical Issue #5 The Molestation of Students

Yep, that is right, the molestation of students is apparently a typical issue in China, so says the party. Our example here is a teacher at the Central Primary School of Dawan in Laibin, Guangxi who used their status as dean to molest several underage female students.

The Chinese for Typical Issue #5

Typical Issue #6 The Sexual Assault of Students

Again, I know. This and molestation should be together, but the reality is that both happen often and are treated quite differently in Chinese culture. A molestation case can end up with a punishment ranging from 5 days to a year. Where as a rape tends to get 1–4 years. Our example is a teacher at Tianlue Foreign Language School in Anji in Zhejiang, who sexually assaulted several female students while tutoring them.

Typical Issue #7 Having Consensual Sex with Students

If I were to make a low end estimate. I would say there is at least one teacher at every uni/college in China dating a student. For example, A teacher at Shandong Aluminum Vocational College used his status as a teacher to interact with a female student and have an improper relationship.

The Chinese for Typical Issue #7

Typical Issue #8 Sexual Harassment of Students and Bribery

Bribery really should be #2, as it is not so much a standard issue in China as it is a way of life, sadly one could make the same case for sexual harassment in this country. Example Teacher Zhang of Fuzhou University broke up with a female student, he continued to harass the student and sexually harassed 3 others.

The Chinese for Typical Issue #8

So the ministry of education says the 8 typical problems plaguing Chinese schools are 1. The Physical/Psychological/Mental abuse of students 2. Bribery 3. Plagiarism 4. Child molestation/Sexual assault/Sexual Harassment 5. Teachers dating students
Firstly that is not 8, what did you think putting it out as 8 would somehow make it lucky? And secondly how any sane human being classify those as typical cases? Whatis going on in state-run and private schools?
But this is the art of propaganda. Treat the abnormal as normal and the normal as abnormal until the masses do not know what to get angry about until you tell them.

China's not a devil, or a paradise. It's a messed up country, as broken as yours. This is the proof.
